November 5th – December 29th

Artist Reception: Thursday, Nov 10th   6-8 pm

Brief artist’s talk at 7 pm

Meet local Huntington Woods photographer, Kathlyn Rosenthal, at her Woods Gallery reception Thursday, Nov 10th, and explore the magic of her photographs. It is intended as an adult reception, but all are welcome.

Kathlyn has been engaged in photography for about 50 years, and her work captures the beauty and mystery found in nature. Her photos explore the patterns as well as abstraction she sees in nature all around us.  This exhibit will inspire you to look at our natural world in a new way.

In her artist’s statement, Kathlyn writes: “Photography has been my best way to express my creativity. When I was first getting started, I took several photography classes to learn how to improve my photos. Having an artist husband also helped, since he would critique my photos. After quite a few years, he told me that I could teach a design class, because he said many of my photos had a beautiful sense of design for the subject I was photographing. I told him no, I couldn’t teach design because I couldn’t say why I made the photograph the way I did. I just know what looks good to me and what doesn’t. I guess maybe I developed a very innate sense of design for my subjects.

I have always loved photographing nature, and more recently finding abstracts in nature. I also look for unique reflections in water, which can result in magical abstract photos. Abstract reflections in water can almost look like a painting.

My photo exhibit is a retrospect of some of my best photography. Some photos were taken quite a while ago, but most were taken more recently. I hope some of these photos speak to you, whether they are older or newer.”
