Showing March 11 – May 6, 2017
The Luna Collective is a group of 5 artists. Women and kindred spirits with busy lives, families and jobs, who carve out time to meet on the full moon of each month, to create artwork. Like a quilting bee, but way, way better.
For the last 7 years, Melissa Porter, Beth McGinnis, Kim Van Dyke, Robin Ward, and Beth Wilusz have been meeting to create artwork and to grow friendships. At meetings in a photography studio, in garage studios, at kitchen tables, living room floors, at a studio space in the Russell Industrial Center, and even in one member’s backyard pool – the Lunas have explored what it means to be a creative woman in a world that demands so much from women.
With exhibitions at venues like The Rust Belt in Ferndale, the Padzieski Art Gallery in Dearborn, The Majestic Theater in Detroit, The Russell Industrial Center in Detroit, The Madonna University Art Gallery in Livonia, and an upcoming spring show at The Woods Gallery in Huntington Woods, The Luna Collective champions a sense of community, collaboration, honoring shared goals, and a disciplined commitment to practicing a craft.
