Unique and creative art from a different artist or group is available for viewing and purchase approximately every eight weeks. Join us for our “meet the artist” receptions, where you can also hear about the inspiration behind the artwork. If you are interested in showing your work at the Woods Gallery, please refer to the information at the bottom of the Current Exhibit page.

The Woods Gallery (located in the lower level of the Huntington Woods Library) is also available for meetings and events during library hours. For availability information, contact us.

History:

The origins of the Woods Gallery date back to the founding of the Huntington Woods Art League, which formed in 1961. The Art League recognized “the unique qualities of our community, and the League was formed to promote the healthy growth and interaction of ideas…” (Lila Johnson, founding Art League member). To further this support, the Art League founded an annual Art Festival featuring both amateur and professional artists. The art fair continued for many years as part of the city’s Fourth of July celebration.

In 1984, the Art League teamed with the Friends of the Library to sponsor Russell Keeter in a one man exhibit located in the basement of the library in what was called the Hardy Room. The success of this event inspired the transformation of the Hardy Room into what is now the Woods Gallery.

The Woods Gallery’s champagne “Gala Opening” took place on January 18, 1985, and featured the work of Barbara Friedman, Electra Stamelos and Paula Zaks. The gallery has been rotating artists on a continuous basis ever since.

Mission

“The mission of the Woods Gallery is to create opportunities for our community to experience a wide variety of creative arts for display and for sale.”
